Dialysis Patients Around the World are Suffering
As if it wasn't bad enough to be diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, but then not to receive the care you need to survive is an additional devastating blow. The expense of dialysis and the limited number of renal practitioners mean many individuals, especially those living in low to middle income countries, have no other choice but to die early or suffer the debilitating consequences of receiving inadequate care.
We work to bridge a healthcare gap by providing critical therapy, education and resources to dialysis clinics and their patients around the globe, for free. But management is just the tip of the iceberg. Prevention is the key. That's why we've also implemented community health programs to educate the public, from older adults to children, about chronic kidney disease and how to prevent it.
Through our internship program we're able to broaden our reach to provide renal services to patients who otherwise would not receive holistic or comprehensive care by a multidisciplinary team. We train and precept you, which allows you to help us make a difference where it's needed most.
In addition, our study abroad program allows students to gain a culturally diverse experience. Cultural competence and cultural intelligence not only rounds out your education but you as a person. Studying in a different country introduces many students to the barriers, limitations, inequities and disparities that are rampant within the healthcare system in poorer countries. This exposure challenges students to be empathetic and perhaps work to find solutions or be a part of a solution to bring adequate and quality healthcare to all.
As we expand our services, we'll be able to take students around the globe to places and peoples that need the most care and where students know they are not only receiving necessary knowledge and skills but they're impacting and improving the quality of people's lives. Choosing to intern with us is a step in the right direction towards changing our world for the better.
